I have been reading about Sky Go which enables you to watch Sky Sports on your PC or mobile device, provided you subscribe to Sky Sports.

Apparantly you can register two PC/mobile devices and watch both at the same time anywhere in UK

Surely this would allow someone with Sky Sports to register their friend's computers and three people could watch Sky Sports in different locations for one subscription??

Or is there some way this is prevented?

  • You need the persons Sky ID to be able to register a device yes, and also a subscription to the channels obviously!

I have my PC at work and at Home registered and can obviously watch at home also on the tele. Our TV is not tuning into any channels currently so we have the laptop connected to the TV and are watching Skygo through it and using the TV as a monitor!!

Can't be prevented as far as im aware but are you really willing to risk losing the chance to view on a mobile device so your mate can watch on his laptop?

As far as im aware ONLY 2 other devices can be registered and once you have used them you cannot activate any other devices.

It is also possible for your mate to have a full sky subscription for £10/month.

On the Sky website it states that you can change your registered mobile devices - which would make sense if you buy a new laptop/I-Pad etc.

It would be quite nice to, say, register my son's device as one of the two. What I am trying to ascertain is Sky's rulings on this matter.

Can you elaborate on the £10 a month full Sky subscription please?

Multiroom!?! Youre not allowed to do it and they send signals to the box randomly (hence 'YOU MUST HAVE A TELEPHONELINE PLUGGED IN!!!) which can and will eventually catch the fraudster but plug it into another dish and you have 2 sky subscriptions, 2 houses only one bill.

Hadn't read the T's&C's but surprised they will let you do it, think there will have to be some kind of cap on it but maybe not.

You shouldnt have a problem registering your sons phone just beware of any data costs that might occur and you'll have to use your sky log in details.

I have Multi-Room - used in another room. As we are sometimes away for 3 weeks I unplugged this additional Sky Box as I don't see the point of leaving on standby something that draws 20 watts.

I had a letter when I got back from Sky giving me a warning. I tried the 'the Fire Service say don't leave items on standby cos its a safety issue' approach, but they wouldn't budge.

I also suspect that if you have been 'caught' once they will check regularly.
  • This new SkyGo that Sky is pushing really annoys me /rant.

If anyone was using Sky Player (SkyGo's predecessor) will know of the 4 device limit, granted you couldn't use it on a mobile device but you had everything you have on SkyGo plus eliglbility for 1 XBOX.

As I can't afford Sky myself I used my fathers SKYID and linked it to my XBOX so I could watch Live/Demand Sky free, however now due to the limited devices being 2 I no longer can.

While my rant is petty the reduce in devices was probably due to handle traffic.

I'm not sure that Sky will be awfully concerned about the needs of non-subscribers.

    Agree...

I have Virgin Media, but use my fathers account on SkyGo to associate it with my own iPad.

The restrictions for SkyGo are totally different, just limited by devices.

This is true. I have Sky Go on my ipad and laptop, I have also given the log in information to my Dad so he could watch the Rugby, and a friend for the same reason.

All that happened is when I came to watch it on my laptop again, it said I already had two devices registered, and to go to "device management". Simply removed my friends laptop, and mine then worked fine.

You can only have it on two devices at any one time, but these can be very easily switched around at will.
