Camera Problems with Cash Gernerator

Options
Hi All

I brought a DX6490 Easycare camera second hand from Cash Generator towards the end of July for £33.99.

Two days after buying the camera we discovered it wouldn’t charge. I returned the camera to the shop and was told they will test if it’s a fault with the camera or the charger. Two days later they informed me it’s a fault with the charger and they ordered me one from ebay. At this point the store was sold and taken over by new management. The person who I was dealing with was never to be seen again, at first we were told he’s working in another store some days, every time I went in or phoned I got told he should be back tomorrow.

After a month had past of pestering them for this charger which they had now ordered twice but it never turned up I just asked for the camera back and I would order my own charger as I had seen what I needed on ebay for a few quid. At this point the store manager looked at me and said I didn’t know you had handed the actual camera in. She then went on to tell me the person who had been dealing with us had been suspended as a few items had gone missing laptop etc and was due to have is hearing in the store later that day.

I never heard what happened at the hearing but I know he no longer works at the store. At this point the store were sending an email to all cash generators in the country to see if any had this model camera. I was about to have a weekend away with my partner and had no camera so I asked the store if I could borrow a camera until they found the model of the Camera we originally had. Which they did.

Today I went in the store willing to give up on the camera and asked for a refund and give them back the camera I’ve borrowed from them, just to put an end to the matter. The original receipt was in the bag with the camera (as they wrote my contact details on it) which had gone missing. But I did pay on my card and I did still have the chip and pin receipt which I thought they would accept under the circumstances, even though it’s not company policy to accept them. They didn’t they said they can only refund up to £30.00 without the receipt. They told me I can either accept the £30 or pick something in store for the value of £33.99. They were also going to take the camera I had borrowed from them. I decided in principle not to accept the refund even though its only £3.99 short and I kept hold of the camera I had borrowed from them while I find out what options I have. I decided to take the camera I’ve borrowed off them to another second shop they said they would give me £15 for it which I refused.

That is where I’m up to now. I don’t want the camera they have given me long term. Its a decent camera but the reason I got the DX6490 is for its great 10x zoom and it takes great night pictures. Any one got any advice for what my next step should be as I’m now stuck, I could accept the £30 but don’t think I should on principle, I want 100% refund nothing else, what would you do in my situation. Many Thanks.

You have to weigh up the loss of £3.99 against the hassle of dealing with these people, going to/from the shop, phoning them, etc. just to get back the full amount.

Personally, I'd take the £30 offer and make a mental note never to shop there again. I know not getting back the full amount isn't very money-saving, but at the end of the day sometimes life's just too short to waste time over some things.
