southern electric

I have had my electricity and gas from southern electric for the last 12 years. I have complained for the last 9 years that my electricity meter is in an inaccessible place but was ignored and each time the meter reader came to read it he complained. Anyway (sorry this is a long story) i pay by direct debitlink3.gif £81 per month for electricity (there were 4 of us living here) In 2008 there there 3 of us here and then in 2010 only 2 of us. Eventually my electricity account showed a credit balance of £500+ which prompted me to ask for a refund which then made them come and change my meter. An engineer came to change it...... took the meter readings to hand in to the office (i wrote them down as well) refused to change the meter telling me i had altered my kitchen since the meter was fitted (i had not) and left. When i got in contact with southern electric to complain about himm i discovered he had never submitted the readings - so i did and i got an amended bill plus a refund of my £500+ (this took place on 31/3/2011)
A few days after an engineer came and moved the meter to a slightly more accesible position (still it is hard to read) and took a reading.
My bill this month shows a credit of £300+.
I had a meter reader come round whilst i was out - he left his card and i called him back to come and read the meter - he never turned up.
Today I took the meter readings myself and found them to be rather high so got in touch with SE and was told that my prfevious readings had been wrong andi now owe them £36.30 plus my "so called" credit on my account.
I have all my accounts - those showing estimates and those showing actual readings plus amended accounts when they discovered their error (?) and refunded me.
I am so confused with this - how can my bill be so high when there are only 2 of us here now and why has it taken them long to find this error and why did they not sort it when they changed the meter which was AFTER i submitted the reading the rude engineer gave me.
Sorry this is long winded but what can i do about this as i feel it is very unfair.
thanks

Is there no one out there to help me please - i am desperate as today I got another amended bill with readings on which come from who knows where. Surely the actual readings the representative took should be shown somewhere?
Southern Electric have "amended" my readings from 2009? is this permitted?
    thanks

Perhaps your OP was too confusing? The meter reading "saga" is not relevant, only the readings (including management of the meter change readings) are relevant.

To get meaningful help you need to post a complete list of meter readings including type of reading (Actual, Customer or Estimated), dates and account balances at each date.
  • looks like the standard catch up bill to me, but best thing is to read the meter 10 days apart, then call them and ask to speak with a metering team or see if they have a disputes team who can help to see what your comsumption is and if there is a pattern
