First time buyer questions
Hi
Me and my boyfriend are both currently living with parents but will be living in a mortgaged house by the end of the month. i have a few questions which i can't seem to find answers to in any FAQ so i hope you don't mind if i ask them here.
- is it a good idea to look through comparison websites to find the best deal? is so can you recommend any?
- does the previous home-owners previous supplier have anything to do with us? for example if they weren't at the point where they could cancel or switch do we still have to use the company they were with? or since we are the new owners of the house can we go with which ever company we prefer?
- do these things need to be set up before we move in so they start the day we move in or do we arrange these things once we are in?

Hi,
On a purely practical basis I would continue with the existing suppliers. It takes weeks to stop supplier and I would stop after settling in.
Doesn't mean that you can't phone and ask what is the best deal they can do for you.

I'd be tempted to stay with the current supplier when you 1st move in:
Ensure the current owners give you the name of the supplier
Read the meters and phone the utility company with them the day you move in (you don't want to end up being charged should the old owners not submit readings...).
Ask them about their various packages and see what they can offer (be wary of being tied into anything for too long - as a 1st time occupier, you've really no idea how much gas/elec you'll use, so any deal you get straight away may not be suitable long term).
Good luck with your move.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
