Brussels after new year

Hello everyone,

I am thinking of taking my boyfriend to Brussels from 2nd-6th Jan 2012. For some reason that week is half the price of any other week with regrads to hotel costs and I was just wondering if anyone new why that is. Is everthing open or is everything shut like some sort of cultural holiday?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Brussels is very dependent on business with the EU Commission and those visiting it. My guess would be they are closed for the week up to the 6th which I think is a public holiday. It may well be quiet, and cold and I am not sure I would voluntarily want to spend that long there, a day is normally enough for me, but you could use it as a base for visits to Bruges and Ghent
