I find a 99p cassette adaptor works fine.

Not much use if, like most modern cars, you only have a CD Player. The downside of models like this are that they need seperate power from the MP3 player. I looked into the whole FM transmitter thing recently and by far the easiest one to use is the ITrip. Unfortunately, this means that you must have an IPod and must pay out £35 but, for me, it was worth it for the fact that I only have one cable that powers both the Ipod and the Itrip and the fact that it is very easy to change to any frequency.

It is worth making sure you see at least a couple of reviews before buying a transmitter as they can be very low powered and it can be like listening to MW radio. A handy tip is to remove your car aerial to increase reception.

Maybe a little extreme, but I bought a Toyota Aygo so as to save on buying one of these contraptions. Works very well (well, it is a Toyota).
  • Another thumbs up for the ebay £5 FM transmitters. I've had one for over a year and it works perfectly in the car.

I'd like to see how a branded one improves the FM transmission that covers the great distance between my cigarette lighter and car aerial !
  • where do you get a 99p cassette adaptor from please? thanks
Boyfriend & I have saved £12K in two years, thanks to careful budgeting and keeping a record of what we spend. I've never paid myself this amount of money before - it feels great!
  • do i just do an ebay search for FM transmitter?

I last got one from Poundland a while ago, but they cost £1.
Ebuyer have one for £2 (108888) but due to delivery costs only really of use if you are ordering something else as well.

Many motorist discount shops or caravan accessory shops do have adaptors which change a cigarette lighter into a two or four option, usually for under a fiver.
