I am asking for a male friend who is stuck for ideas on what a man could do in retirement. There are no grandchildren or children or anything like that?
Wanted to see what people do especially ideas for men.

Join his local U3A - he'll soon find there's not enough hours in the day.
Interest groups vary widely from the pure fun, to the intellectual.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
There will be a good selection of local charities who would love to have an active retiree helping them - could be anything from admin work to practical stuff.0

I [lone male] volunteer at my local Age Concern, doing family history, mine also does IT training, so maybe opening at you local one?
Also the U3A as mentioned above
Some of my male acquaintances go bowling, the lawn type, not ten pin, never appealed to me but they enjoy itEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Maybe join a rambling/walking club?
Is he interested in buildings/ruins? Perhaps join English Heritage or National Trust.
If he's interested in stuff like that, maybe he could become a room guide in the nearest stately home.
Did this chap have any hobbies when he was working?
Is he the sociable type or is he looking for lone activities?
Does he have a partner who is also retired?

I'd never heard of U3A so googled it, pity there's not one close to me.0 -

Is he interested in mechanical things - there are various groups around ranging from old railways to boats and aircraft that might welcome another pair of hands - even if he's not practical they might be happy to have someone help with office type things.Adventure before Dementia!0

If you google 'volunteering in
'(name of place) you will find lots of jobs listed.
I volunteered for the Citizens Advice Bureau and I love it. Not for everyone, but there are lots of volunteering posts that you can apply for.
Some people are happy (and well off enough!) not to do any kind of job and to use the time to do all the things that they didn't have time for when they were working, but I have found 'having a purpose' the thing for me.:)0 -
He could learn to cook. Go walking. Learn to garden and grow veg. Go bowling. Decorate the house.0

If he wants to remain healthy exercise and socialistion are vital. Without knowing what interests him it's pretty difficult to come up with any specific suggestions..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
