Please help with Freeview scart wiring

I am not technical and can only work out how to wire a Freeview box with a TV with 2 scarts, a video with 2 scarts and a Freeview box with 2 scarts. (I worked this out by luck.)
My mum, however, (being 78 and not having much money) needs to have a scart setup with a TV with a single scart and a video with a single scart, and Freeview with 2 scarts.
Somebody told me that you could do it with a scart splitter, so I bought a 5 way one from the Pound Shop.
I’ve looked on the Internet for help, but the stuff is too technical for me.
Is there anyone on this Techie board that can help me? A wiring diagram would be the easiest for me to understand, if it is possible to do.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Here ya go. I did have a look through this http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/connecthelp.php with your setup and it worked out ok, so check it out for yourself. It will be easier than me typing it all in.

Thanks to all three of you for your help. I think I'll be able to do it quite easily now. I wish I'd asked for help ages ago.0

If you set it up like that, you can't record from the freeview box, so you won't be able to record at all once there is no longer an analogue signal.f107btx wrote:Scarts

That's assuming that the Freeview box doesn't have an RF modulator, like 90% of them do NOT.
Far better to do:
SCARTS
Freeview > SCART splitter input
Freeview > VCR
VCR > SCART splitter input
SCART splitter output to TV
RF
Freeview > VCR
VCR > TV
Isn't it? This enables watching one channel (analogue) at the moment and videoing another channel (Freeview) or vice versa.0 -

In (1) is the scart labelled TV meant to go in a scart splitter?
In (2) is the scart labelled VCR meant to go in the video scart?
In (3) if that's the case I would not be able to put another scart lead from the video to the splitter box because it has only got one scart socket.
I haven't tried any method out yet, as I shall not see my mother until next weekend.
It's probably that I'm being a bit dim and not understanding what goes where.
Can anyone help a bit more? Thanks.0 -
Dammit, you're right.
It makes it very complicated if your mum has obsolete (single SCART) equipment at every stage of the process.
The only way her arrangement will work is if the SCART splitter allows multi-directional switching.
E.g.
1) Freeview > SCART splitter channel 1
2) SCART splitter channel 2 > VCR (both directions)
3) SCART splitter channel 3 > TV
My SCART splitter does this - you can output any input to the TV, but you can also output either of the inputs to the VCR.0 -
I've recently set up something similar + a DVD player for my teen daughter using the hand-me-down equipment she possesses. All, apart from the Freeview box, have only one Scart each!
Freeview TV OUT Scart -> (mono-directional) basic 2 x Scart splitter
DVD Scart -> Scart splitter (same one as above)
Scart splitter -> TV Scart
Freeview VCR OUT Scart -> VCR Scart
Aerial -> Freeview box.
Freeview RF lead -> VCR Ant In
VCR RF lead -> TV Ant In
She can watch Freeview TV (and analogue channels although there's a cr*p signal for them), record from Freeview onto VCR, view DVDs or Videos.
Gave me a headache, figuring out that lot :cool:0 -
Thanks both for your advice. I doubt the SCART splitter allows multi-directional switching as I bought it from Poundland. If she can record digital and watch analogue, then that's more than she can do now. I'll have a go at the weekend.0
