Cash for Care Home?

Options
Hi
my Dad died recently after spending a brief but happy stay as a resident in a care home.

The staff were excellent, both to Dad and the family who visited him daily, they made his last weeks very comfortable - or at least as comfortable as they could.
Mum wants to give the staff who looked after him some money in appreciation.

Is this actually allowed (or does it depend on the care home's specific policy)?

We want to make sure it goes to the staff rather than the owners.

Thanks

It does depend on the individual Home. Talk to the manager, you won't be the first relative that has wanted to do this and the Home may have a policy in situ already.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Perhaps she could provide something for the staff room in his memory.

Most homes have a very strict policy stopping the staff accepting personal gifts or money from residents or relatives. Check with the manager if there's any way she can show her appreciation - contribution to the staff Christmas party, perhaps?

    Thanks all, some good ideas.

I need to speak to the Care Home manager anyway about the outstanding amount due for Dad's stay (he'd not been in long enough for us to get organised with direct debits so I know we owe them some money and I'm keen to get everything paid so we know where we are financially) so I can talk about a possible donation at the same time.
  • We asked if there was anything the home needed and ended up contributing towards a flat screen TV and some DVDs.
