When to "Measure Up" new house?

I was just wondering when is the right time to ask for another viewing of a house to "measure up"?

We've got our mortgage offer and the survey has come back with no major problems and our solicitor has started the searches.

Our buyers have not got their mortgage yet or surveyed our house.

i think op means measuring for curtains etc not suitability, unless im wrong.....?
  • I mean literally measuring up to work out where to put furniture etc.

Easiest way is do a scale drawing (I assume you have a floor plan) of your room and then cut out scale drawings of your sofa etc and play around with positioning.
  • If it is just for existing furniture then if the agent provided a floor plan and room sizes in the details then that should be OK for a starter - if you are planning on buying anything new then I would get back in and check and double check everything first but it is probably too early yet for this. I would leave it until you are 90% sure eveything is going to go through and then ask the agent again which is what we did (measuring for a new kitchen).

I'm a complete pessimist where house moving is concerned at the moment. Personally, I definitely wouldn't order brand new furniture before moving in just in case. If it comes to measuring up for furniture you've already got, I'd probably wait until your buyers have had their survey, at least.

I wouldn't contemplate anything like that until very near exchange - and definitely wouldn't order anything until after I'd exchanged!

I would wait until after exchange. I would also consider your house as without a buyer until they have at least done the survey and I certainly wouldn't take it off of the market.
