Just had my bathroom done and thrilled with it and the people that fitted it.

    I would guess that the work they did was OK, as there was probably no new circuits installed, however i'm not a spark, perhaps the guys at this site might help, they know all the electrical regs inside out.

    All advice given by thekid is in good faith but remember these important facts:
    1. I'm lucky enough to live in Scotland(Scots Law may apply)...
    2. My motto is "What's the worst that can happen" you've seen the kids in the Comic Relief clips, is it to that scale? Then get a grip!
    3. It's only money...no really(see #2)
    4. I'm only a plumber... :wink:

  • You should have got a certifiate for a shower change (even if it is the same place with no alteration of wiring). The certificate is called a minor electrical works certificate.

    A rewire cost is a 'how long is a piece of string type question'

    For your type and size of house it could be anyting from £1800 to £3500. It all depends on what you are having done (lots of spots will cost more than 1 pendant set in each room)

    It also depends on how awkward the house is, and if there is lots of furnature etc.

    You should use a compotent person for the work, links below

    In Scotland:
    Individuals regitered;

    Companies

    In England and Wales:

    Hope this helps

    Ouch! Dare I ask if that is just for the electrics side of things or does it include making the walls good afterwards? I think I know what the answer will be.
  • the cost of a plasterer (making good rewire works only) should be around £100-£200.

    I know a couple of local plasterers who I suggest to clients. I find this better all round- most people want more than rewire stuff plastred. It is more cost effective for the client to engage the plasterer and get ceilings skimmed etc. (if required) at the same time.
