help with heating costs

Is there any help available for people who are disabled to get help with heating costs

  • Are you in receipt of means tested benefits? If so, there is a new scheme called 'Warm Homes' that you may be eligible for. If you contact your supplier they will be able to tell you more.

    You may also be able to get Cold Weather Payments if you are getting:
    Pension Credit
    Income Support
    income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
    income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

    Pension Credit
    If you are in receipt of Pension Credit, you will usually receive Cold Weather Payments.
    Income Support and income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
    If you are getting Income Support or income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, you will usually receive Cold Weather Payments if you also have any of following:
    a disability or pensioner premium
    a child who is disabled
    Child Tax Credit that includes a disability or severe disability element
    a child under five living with you
    Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
    If you are in receipt of Income-related ESA, you will usually receive Cold Weather Payments if you also have any of the following:
    the support or work-related component of ESA
    a severe or enhanced disability premium
    a pensioner premium
    a child who is disabled
    Child Tax Credit that includes a disability or severe disability element
    a child under five living with you

    As I understood it, DLA was not counted as income for council tax purposes.

    If I get Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Attendance Allowance will my other benefits be reduced?
    Both Attendance Allowance and Disability Living Allowance (DLA) are disregarded as income for all other benefits except if you go into hospital or residential care.

    I'd suggest callig your council, and checking they know the income is from DLA.
