Just make sure you inspect the car when you collect it and ensure all damage is agreed before you move it, and then when you bring it back, get them to inspect it and sign accordingly. Keep that receipt! (in case of issues arising later) :)

I take it that they are all as bad as each other then!

Pretty much. You can have issues with any of them. It basically comes down to a choice of:
    1. Paying for the hire company's optional insurance. This can be very expensive, but isn't always, so worth finding out about.
    2. Getting separate excess insurance but having the hassle of having to claim if they do find any damage.
    3. Taking only the basic insurance and fighting tooth and nail if they try it on.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
  • A new(ish) scam many do now is charge you for the tank of fuel before-hand and you are supposed to give it back empty. It is very difficult to get exactly the right amount of fuel in so it is even close to empty when returning it. Also if you plan on driving less than 400 - 700+ miles (car dependant) you wont even empty the tank so could end up paying for half a tank of fuel extra.

    Thanks for the reply!
Is there anywhere on the internet that compares these costs?
