Hi just moved into a student house and we want to save money on elect and gas, but have no usage figures, so what can we do to look for the cheapest rates, just look at the per kw rates?
Thank you.
Use a comparison site.
Most allow comparisons with no known usage data (using estimates based om size/type of property, no of inhabitants, etc). I won't be very accurate, but better than looking at unit rates which is meaningless due to other costs/discounts that need to be taken into consideration."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Once you have chosen a supplier, use their prices (minus discounts), create a spreadsheet and entry you meter readings every week to determine how much (in £s) you have used. Divide this by the number of people and thats how much to collect that week. After a period of time you may find that the amounts are about the same so you can agree a set amount.
Don't forget to do the same with water if you have a water meter.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
