The current Michelins have done ~55k so fairly happy with that, rears have got a few k left on them.

I wish I could get 55k out of a set of tyres. Living in a rural county with some amazing driving roads that attract thousands of bikers every summer, I tend to drive quite "spirited". I'm lucky to get half the mileage you do.

petrol engines usually more expensive to tax than diesels.
My wifes 1.4d fiesta is only £35 a year (it's a 53), and even she gets a reasonable fuel economy.

The difference in tax at the lower end of the scale is going to be what? 20 quid maybe, compared to all the other costs involved in running a car it's not even worth thinking about.

It would make a difference if you were cross shopping, say, a 1.0 Corsa and a V8 Range Rover, but nobody actually does that really.

If that's on the Mondeo I can imagine, I do mainly motorway miles, suspect if many bends were involved I'd not get near that mileage.

I've now got a new budget tyre on the front, just for a temporary measure until I can afford decent ones all round (couple of weeks or so), just found out I'm being made redundant!

I know, don't lecture me, I will be driving even more carefully than normal!
