First time buyer Gas and electricity

Hi i am a first time buyer completing in a couple of weeks and would appreciate advice on how to swap my gas and electric suppliers.

The seller is currently with swalec but i have found better deals with different companies, is it possible to switch straight away without being disconnected or should we stay with swalec and switch at a later date.

i think you might have to go with the current supplier then switch as it can take 5 or 6 weeks for the switch to go thru,when you move in make sure you make a note of the meter readings

Yes you will have to set up an account with the existing supplier Swalec.

So as soon as you move in take the readings as woodbine said and ring Swalec to register your details and readings with them. Then you will be free to start the switch, your new supplier will give Swalec the required notification of change.

The change will take 4-6 weeks so go on the cheapest Swalec tariff (they will put you on their standard tariff if you do not say anything) but BE CAREFUL you do not get put on a tariff which has early exit charges.
