Transferring files from a PC running Windows 98 to another PC running XP

The background to this query is that I have some old APS films that I want to digitalise. I have bought a used scanner off of eBay that is doing the job fine but only runs on Windows 95 or 98. Not being techie enough to know how to partition my PC's drive and install two operating systems I have instead taking ownership of a friend's old PC that he was about to bin that runs 98. Fortuantely it's massive 8Gb (LOL) harddrive should be enough to store all the photos in one or maybe two runs. The problem I have is that I don't know how to get the scanned photos off of that PC and onto my main PC: these are the options I can think of:
Can anyone think of anthing else I can do?
Thanks.
- Use a flash drive to do the job - problem is I don't have the drivers for my flash drives and can't find out who made them - they were all freebies!
- Use my Freecom 40Gb mobiel drive - can't find any drivers for windows 98 so not sure it is supported for that
- Burn a CD in the Windows 98 PC but it doesn't have a burner!
- Upload the files onto the web and then download them onto my main PC - this is my favoured option yet the damed thing doesn't seem to recognise my netgear router. My router works fine on my XP PC but when I plug the ethernet cable into the windows 98 PC nothing happens at all
Can anyone think of anthing else I can do?
Thanks.

Can you not use a cable connection of some kind, maybe a laplink cable.
Or why not get a cheap network card and network them together with a crossover cable.0 -
If you have a router, and ethernet cards, and 2 cables, then it is just a matter of getting file and print sharing on the new PC working, and make sure tcpip is intalled on 98, and it should work. when you plug 98 pc into router, do a start, run, winipcfg and then do a release and renew. This should issue the PC with an ip address
If this is a wireless router, make sure that you don't have mac address filtering enabled, and make sure it is secured with wpa encryption before setting up file and print sharing, otherwise you may end up sharing your photos with the neighbours.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Why can't you get this scanner to work on your new PC? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

The scanner is a Kodak Advantix FD300 - rather old technology and they didn't support them when XP came out (pretty shocking really but that is how some companies behave). I think you may have helped with the router problem - yes I have the MAC filter turned on. I will turn it off now and hopgully that will fix it!!!0

Hi feival
When I used a USB stick with Windows 98SE I downloaded the Maximus Decim 'generic' driver from here:-

the mac address filtering was a red herring.. sorry, it was late. it only affects wireless mac addresses.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
