Hello, I'm hoping you wise people out there will be able to help!
My partner - bless his heart - isn't particularly clued up when it comes to finances and after watching this week's Watchdog he's realised he was missold PPI as it was included in his loan but he wasn't advised that it was optional.
I'm more than happy to help him in making a PPI claim but the problem is the loan was with the Alliance & Leicester who of course have been swallowed up by Santander. So.... would I need to contact Santander in the first instance?
Also, due to very poor service from the A&L (for a different matter), after we early settled the loan in question (in 2008) we both decided to sever all ties with the bank and close all our current/savings accounts and credit card with them. After this was all completed, we shredded all documentation so unfortunately we no longer have the loan account number. Would this appear on my partner's credit file?
With our lack of details I'm not hopeful of getting anything back but I'm prepared to give it a go anyway!
Thank you for taking the time to read this, much appreciated.

A&L may still be able to trace the account from name and address details.
Are you sure he was not told it was optional, though. He has simply forgotten?0 -
But how can I contact A&L if they no longer exist? Do Santander have access to A&L account details?
And my partner might not be particularly clued up about finances but he's not daft! He remembers what was said and what was not.0 -
You contact Santander, you can do a claim over the phone, look here for reasons for mis sell and see if any/all apply to you.
