Rather than waste your time complaining about posts that you could just as easily ignore it would be better if you answer ohreally's question, without knowing what benefits you are on it's difficult for anyone to answer properly. If you are only on contributions-based JSA then it's unlikely you'll find many reductions, most concessions seen to need you to be on things like IS. You may have to ask the providers themselves, often places like cinemas don't specify on their websites exactly who can get concessions.
if all they require is showing of a ub40 then really people just need to be signing on even if the terms say people must be recieving a means tested benefit.
  • it just tees me off when people are demanding when you only wrote it 20 minutes previously.

I know you can get discount at local council run gyms, only off peak though. You won't get discount off buses and trains, but if you have family then you can get a family rail card. You can generally get discount off courses you want to do at local council run places. Generally for cheap cinema tickets its the same for us all working or not - 2 for 1 orange Wednesdays, 40% off odeon at the moment.

Generally though, working or not, most places will give discount regardless but you just have to search for it (generally on the website concerned).

The best place really to ask is the benefit board.

Oh, and calling people a trout isn't big and it isn't clever as this is not the school playground and i've long passed being 5 years old!

Cant say ive heard of any discounts for unemployed round here,
  • Blimey! Jeremy Kyle in the morning cinema in the afternoon not a bad life eh! Can't remember the last time I went to the cinema and I work part time and still can't afford it. Why not save a couple of quid out of your JSA each fortnight and treat yourself? Hey why not ask at the post office if they do discounts on stamps (for sending out JOB APPLICATIONS). I sometimes wonder what bloody planet some of you live on I really do.

You will have been sent a letter stating what benefit you are receiving. You need to show that letter, at least that is what the local college here wants to see. But as someone else said if you are on contribution based JSA you are usually not eligible, you need to be on income based JSA to qualify.

Firstly most jobs require you to send a C.V. via email or through a recruitment/agency site,so no need for stamps!! I have applied for over 100 different jobs in differing sectors over the last 6 weeks.

Secondly I spent a full week ,going from my house upto a 25 mile radius, delivering my C.V to businesses that were in the same area that I had just come from.I personally handed over 40 C.V this way .

So I think that my initial question isnt ridiculous especially WHEN I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR WORK. I've even paid £1600 myself to go last week onto a specific management course because I believe in investing in oneself to make myself a better prospect to other employers, that added with the fact I've been accepted onto a 4 year part time Business Management degree at Leeds University means I'm not someone who's just looking solely for the state to provide!!!!!!!!!!!
There is some decent people out of work you know who sometimes just need a helping hand....lets hope you never have to find out mate....YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW!!

Running the risk of pointing out the obvious, but have you asked at the cinemas/etc you want to buy tickets at? Just go to the counter and say "I have been made redundant - are there any discounts available off-peak for unemployed people? What proof will I need to bring?"
