Toyota servicing intervals?

My Auris has 25,770miles on it and a warning about oil maintenance keeps showing. The oil level is fine and it was serviced by a Toyota garage in March at 18,400miles. Does this mean it needs another expensive service?

Strangley enough the oil warning light is set to come on at about 20k miles, which is daft as the services are 10k miles (+/-2k) or 1 year (+/- 30days), it's in your manual if you look up service light. So no it won't need an oil change. Expensive service? Sevices on our Auris (I have 2) are about £80 plus the oil which I supply myself (£24) and this is at Toyota manin agent.

My local Toyota dealer was happy for me to supply my own too.

I too found Toyota's servicing to be anything but expensive, competent garages on the whole, other makes could learn a lot from them.

If its a diesel the oil may have been contaminated with diesel during the DPF process.

I don't believe the car has any way of monitoring oil quality as a result though.
  • Thanks for replies. Still dont know why the light has just at 24k started to say soon? Never came on at 20k! Servicing has been erratic by previous disabled very low mileage owner. So can I just ignore it and have a service 10k after last service or 1 year whichever comes first?
Good tip about taking my own oil along, which do you recommend for 2007 1.4 diesel with mmt box?
  • ^^^ Yes ignore it, stick to the service schedule, it's all that counts. The oil service may have been reset at 4k, read about it in your manual, it's in there somewhere. As for oil, that is also in the manual towards the back.

I use their oil (Toyota) from the dealership. £16.50 for 5 litres of the correct oil, the same as they use. I just provide them with the car details, registration mark etc.. That price was 6 months ago. Shop around elsewhere though their price might have risen?
As above, the specifications are in the manual.
