So what makes you think that a Solicitor will have anything to do with the conveyancing? The chances are that all the work will actually be done by the solicitor's clerk. The extent of the solicitor's involvement will probably be no more than to sign your invoice.

Thanks, jelfs666 for that perspective. So, are you a solicitor or a conveyancer? LOL!

I chose to go with a solicitor in the end. Simply because I felt that for that value of property I needed someone more 'qualified' for lack of a better word. I gather from the posts that conveyancers tend to be used for conveyorbelt (excuse the unintended pun) type of transactions which probably falls in the average house price bracket - probably usually FTBs. So far the solicitor has been brilliant, more so when we instructed him with our purchase in addition to our sale.

What the f**k are you talking about?

Are you saying that because you are buying/selling a very expensive house
that the procedures are different and hence require a more qualified person or more "upmarket" service?

One system for you and another one for the plebs.

If so, you are not only a snob but are a deluded fool.

If not, then explain what you mean.

I've bought and sold 2 houses using a firm of conveyancers, Sirva Conveyancing. The first time was because they were the ones allocated by a corporate relocation, the other times was because they did such a bang up job the first time!

I've used the same person there for the last 3 transactions (we've always bought and sold separately), and she's been brilliant - none of this call centre nonsense, if she wasn't there her secretary knew exactly who I was and where my case was up to. Will be back there like a shot when the housing market subsides enough for me to want to buy again. As far as I can recall, it cost around £500 to sell a 4 bed house.

(In the interests of balance, but nothing to do with houses, the local solicitor we used to do our wills was excellent too, and suggested lots of issues about trusts/guardians for our children that we hadn't considered. So in conclusion, it just depends entirely on the person, then. Oh well, the OP will have to make their own minds up.)
