The price of replacement cutters for Philips Philishave electric shavers.

I have used Philips rotary electric shavers for decades in preference to wet shaving which I don’t like. The shavers are reasonably well made, long lasting and work very well. The cheapest 3 cutter models are about £35, rising to nearly £200 for the all singing all dancing versions.
The one thing that bugs me about them is the cost of replacement cutters. I never buy them as they cost about £12 each, or £36 for three. For £36 I can buy a brand new shaver.
Even more ridiculous is that Philips make a small battery powered model with two cutters, identical to those in my 3 cutter model, that sells for less than £12. I could buy two of those for £24 and have 4 spare cutters.
Fortunately I find that the cutters never really need replacing. I don’t have a heavy or thick beard and the cutters are self sharpening. If anything they actually get slightly more efficient with use as the metal cover must get slightly thinner with use so my shave gets marginally closer.
This is not really a proper rant as I never buy and don’t need to buy the replacement cutters. I just buy a new shaver every ten years or so.:D

You dont have to fork out for replacement cutters as you can get cutter sharpeners relatively cheaply that you can use again and again.I got mine from https://www.shaversavers.co.uk they cost £14.99 and have made my phillips shaver cut like new.0

The 'Razor and Blade' business model is a well known tactic. The Razors are sold for very little profit (or sometimes even at a loss) because the manufacturers know that consumers will be 'locked in' to the product. The same model can be seen with Printers and Ink (although you can get unbranded ink cheaper - manufactuers are trying everything in their power to stop this of course).0
