Southern Electric are increasing my DD by 140%!!

Yep, that's right folks.

Got my gas and electricity bills yesterday and was shocked to find that from Nov my monthly DD will increase by 52% for gas and 140% for electricity.

The bill mentioned that they have reviewed my account for the increase. Now, I know that they have recently increased their charges but how the hell can they justify my increases when I'm still in credit for both??

Am going to give them a call tomorrow to get some sort of explanation but am furious about how they can do this. I've lived in my 1 bed house for less than a year! What are they basing the hike on?

Just wondering if any other customers have been hit.

Rant over.

Are you in any debt ie have had estimated readings for example and there being a shortfall

They may also increase dd because of increase in fuel and or they expect you to be in debt especially when it comes to heating in next few months
  • I've always in been credit. Understood that it may rise due to the winter months but the hike has come as a shock. I'll see what they have to say.

OK, but if you want "meaningful" help you need to provide more information, in particular what the previous monthly payments were and the actual credit balance at the last bill broken down into gas and electricity.

To fight this effectively you need to know your annual consumptions in kWhrs. Should be on the bills if you have been a customer for long enough.

The calculation may or may not be right but equally might be caused by a rogue reading. Check the readings on the most recent bill are (1) Actual or Customer and (2) approximately what the meters read today.

I'm assuming because you have gas you use gas for heating. Is that right?

Also, although you can't run away from energy costs, are you satisfied Southern Electric is offering you the most cost-effective tariff in the marketplace?
