                    Hi,
Just venting here. Bought a bottle of vodka Friday night from Costcutters near London Bridge, Southwark. It was a cheap £7.99 bottle so expected some random Russian brand or something equally disgusting.
As the bottle was behind the shelf I could not see the label etc. They ran the product through as "grocery items" which should have tipped me off. Upon leaving I checked the label. The duty stamp logo was clearly fake, it was poorly printed, called itself russian standard in one part of the bottle saying it was distilled four times. It said it was 37.5% and had 30 units in the 70cl bottle... which is wrong by anyone's calculations and I didn't think they could round the number of units (the units was not in the normal glass time thing, just stated in plain text). Nothing on the label about drink aware.
It smelt heavily of nail varnish which I thought was wrong! Google'd and apparently this is what fake vodka smells of. Had a quick taste, didn't taste like vodka.
Took it back to the shop and the guy gave me a full refund, no questions asked when I stated it was fake...
Not good, venting here as I had never bought fake vodka before... still tempted to report them but obviously don't have a bottle anymore to send to trading standards or whatever.

Still worth notifying trading standards, this may be a regular occurrence.0

If the refund it, no questions asked, it is clearly a regular occurrence. Report it.
I don't understand why you complain about the taste though, I'm pretty sure most people don't buy it because of its taste (its horrible) but because they get drunk quickly. Then again, its not me buying it
Thought for the day: each generation of mankind tends to hug the illusion of having reached the culmination of human achievement. Yet, as we scoff at our groping ancestors, so our descendants will surely scoff at us.

I think you should report it. It could make someone really ill if they drank it.stevenhp1987 wrote: »Hi,

Definitely report this please please please! There is a real problem with fake spirits and they can (and do) make people really ill. It's an issue that is taken seriously by trading standards and they will investigate even if you report it anonymously.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0

You would think you would be safe in a costcutter.
Counterfeit products can kill.
Reminds of someone a friend told me about who worked in the buffet on a train. He used to refill miniatures (mainly from those discared in bins on the train) from full bottles and sell them instead of the train companies stock.
He was making a fortune each week.............0 -
