Health Question

Hi, i am a single mum with two young children, I have a medical condition that has worsened considerably recently and I am about to resign from my job so that I can move nearer to my family who can offer me the the level of support that I need when I am suffering the most.

My question is will I be entitled to any benefits whilst I am looking for a job in my new area, given that I resigned from my last place of work? I am getting into a panic that if I can't find a job immediately that I won't be able to pay the rent!

The condition that I have is Psoriatic arthritis and at it's worst is very debilitating, however sometimes it is is not as bad as others. I haven't let it stop me working and I don't intend to if I can help it, but I have no support network where I currently live and moving nearer to my family is essential to my quality of life.

Sorry this is a bit drawn out I was trying to anticipate and answer any questions that might be asked.

if your youngest child is under 7 then if you give up work you can claim income support until you find another job, you could also make a claim for LHA/CTB, if you receive WTC then you'll need to inform them within a month of stopping work.
  • Thanks Lady gaga, sorry what is LHA and CTB, I have never claimed benifits before so I am a bit lost with all of this, so there is no problem that I will have resigned my job albiet due to a health problem, I can get Income Support if I don't get a job straight away because I have a child under 7?

Yes, you shouldn't have any problem at all giving up work and claiming IS if you have a child under 7.
LHA is local housing allowance, (housing benefit by another name) it varies from region to region so check with your local authority what the rate is for your area and requirements.
and CTB is council tax benefit.
  • Thanks so much, hopefully I won't need it for long here's hoping that a job comes up soon.
