What are my rights? Problem with eternity ring

Options
I was given an eternity ring in January of this year, which lost a diamond at the beginning of July.

I picked up the repaired ring today - they replaced the stone free of charge as the ring was only just 6 months old - and I've noticed that already one of the stones is standing proud. It's a channel-set ring, so quite obvious that it's not set properly.

We'll be in contact with the jewellers (again!) tomorrow, but I wondered what our rights actually are. I'm now quite concerned about wearing the ring in case the stones work loose. Can we get a refund? Or am I destined to wear it only for best whilst worrying the whole time that a stone might drop out? We've got a 12 month guarantee on the repair, but I've only been wearing it for a couple of hours and already there seems to be a problem. It's not like I've been mixing cement or anything!

I feel quite disappointed as it wasn't cheap and in all honesty I expected better for the money paid. It's not a case of wanting the money back, I've waited the better part of 20 years for this ring!

Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately the should offer a refund, replace or replacement -- their choice. They will likely make a second attempt to repair. You could always ask for a refund and hope they agree to it, if you don't ask you don't know.

So you saw this ring 20 years ago, then waited this long to purchase it?

By 'you' I mean whomever purchased the ring and therefore has a contract with the retailer.

Thanks, that's kind of what I thought. We'll see what they have to say tomorrow.

Not quite - I've waited almost 20 years for an eternity ring. Was a nice surprise to be told we could finally go and choose one.

Contract is between OH and the jeweller. So, yes, it's up to him to call them!

    Many thanks for your reply.
