Possible to SORN part time / Tax part time?
Hi,
I've been offered a good price on a beautiful old jag, which I'd love to tempt myself by, but just checking some of the facts first!
Firstly, a monster V12 is going to cost a bomb to insure, even with very low annual mileage the cheapest quote was well over double what I pay on my dull everyday car...
My plan was to just tax it up and keep it in my drive, then buy a temporary insurance policy (£10 for 1, 2 days, etc) from the RAC for sunny weekends...
...but then I remembered the new continuous insurance law.
Does this new law mean it's now impossible to do the above, even if the car was kept off the road in my drive? Any other way around this, or is owning a classic car just too big a hit these days?
Thanks - am a complete novice at this whole idea!

good point
yes it means you cant do this
you would have to keep cashing in tax discs resorning etc
you cant even sorn at the post office anymore unless you have the tax notification letter
this means if you have just registered a car in your name you cant do it online until its updated and you cant go to the post office
you either are at the whim of the postal system or local dvla
last time i sorned by phone they lost all records of my call so i dont go there anymore
why cant they just accept a v890 with a v5c application like they used to0 -
I'd try a classic insurance specialist - you may be able to get it cheaper than a regular insurance company, especially if you agree to 1000 or 2000 miles a year.0

It should be very cheap om a classic policy, unless you're under 25.0

If you can get a garage you should be able to insure it fully comp agreed value also, for £120 a year.
All my classic policies insisted it was garaged at night.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
