Hi. I want to do a first aid course.
I would prefer to do an online course for any free first aid course whether it be recognized by the HSE or not.
Can anyone help me with the info I need?

As far as I know I don't think courses are normally free though you can get a free first aid guide from St John Ambulance. St John Ambulance also do Essential first aid courses which are for anyone to participate in around the UK for £30. To qualify as a fully fledged first aider you'd need to do a more intensive course.

I just spotted this on St John Ambulance's website:
Essex St John Ambulance will be running a free course on 17 November.
You could try contacting them to see if there's any others available through out the year in other parts of the UK.

The British Red Cross have a website where you can learn first aid online for free. Go to the Red Cross website and click on Everyday First Aid. You can even do a quiz and print your own certificate (not an approved workplace qualification).0

I no you said you want free but if you have any local nanny agencies to you they may do them and often do them aimmed at parents as well as nannies fees are often reassonable or alternantively you local adult education centre may run some courses that you can attend and if you are in receipt of certain beneifts or have a low income you get some help with fees making them extremely cheep0

I did think of the British Red Cross though didn't know they did free online first aid courses.
Incidentally, these courses are basic and don't assume you'll automaticly qualify as a trained first aider once you've completed one. If you want to train as a first aider you'll need to do one of the more intensive courses. There's plenty mentioned on St John Ambulance's website, you should also find some on the British Red Cross website as well.
If you want to do one of these courses on a work related basis then consider talking to either your line manager or HR department about this.0 -
Thank you to all. I look into each of the replies.0

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Look on here: http://www.do-it.org.uk/ and look for volunteering opportunities in your area. British Red Cross and St Johns Ambulance are in my area, and they train you up to be a qualified first aider (free of charge). Takes time, and you won't just be able to just do it online, but it's a good option if it's available near you.0
