How to record a telephone conversation

Can someone tell me if there is a device/dongle available to record a telephone conversation (with the consent of the participant obviously).

Either recording the conversation to a computer or MP3 player etc. I need to write stories based on the conversations and I wouldn't know where to start with shorthand!

I can't use a speaker phone unfortunately either, so perhaps there is a 'box' or something that the telephone cable can pass through which will allow you to plug in an output.. to computer, or MP3 etc.

Does someone like Maplins sell something like this?

Thanks

God I had one of those years ago from Maplins, It used to plug in to my "Portable" (size of 2 house bricks) cassette player!!

I never imagined that they would still sell them now.:rotfl: :rotfl:

This is just so freaky! A friend's dad was apparently asking the same question the other day, my friend referred him onto me, and apparently he's willing to pay top money (approaching the 100k SEK) mark for equipment to do the job, also researching into recording for mobiles as well (think it's something to do with employee misconduct or something).

Anyway, there are there 'traditional' tape decs, etc, but you could also try a simple computer/modem, connect the phone to computer, use something like IVM (for windows). Asterisk (Windows and Linux) also has call recording capabilities, you can save it to MP3, etc and configure the duration, timer, etc.

    Hussein.

I bought one about 5 years ago from Argos, looks like a normal tape sized dictaphone. One end goes into the phone box then you plug your phone into it and the other end goes into the mic jack point on the recording device. Really handy device to have in this day and age of lying customer service people on the phone, funny when you have a major greivance with a company they "conveniently" cannot find records of phone conversations.
