home builing/contents insurance

I have made 1 claim in the last 3 years and upon getting a quote from loyds tsb online they are unable to give me a quote.

If i ignore the claim and say i have not claimed it will give me a quote.. If i proceeded with and bought the insurance, would they and could they find out i have made a claim. Will they ask for info from my currant insurers.

Thanks

    Insurers share info.

Don't fib to save a few quid. Any claim on your behalf would result in your insurance being declared null and void.

Have you phoned Lloyds?? It may just be a case of "computer says no..." at this stage. A person might be able to circumvent this.
  • All home insurers share info - moreso than motor insurers

Lloyds are very fiddly when it comes to quoting to people who have made a claim, if you want a quote from them you have to have a clean record (no claims) for the past 5 years!
Barclays only need you not to have made a claim in the last two years and are usually cheaper.
If you go through quidco barclays are offering £125 cashback, lloyds is £120 at the moment.
  • I have recently used 'confused.com' as per Martins advice on this website.

My renewal quote from the Pru arrived and had gone up to approx £300 for Building & Contents Insurance (A £30 increase but they included legal expenses at £15 which I didn't require). I have made 1 claim on contents 3 years ago & I suppose had stuck with them until now under a false sense of 'loyalty' & the fact that they had paid out so efficiently! Through confused.com I got two very good quotes of £172 & £181! Phoned the Pru to see if they could perhaps match this (even if they'd got near I would have stayed lol) but got a snotty reply of "...we don't price match". No loyalty on their part then!

I would strongly advise to be honest & shop around!

Did you check whether the 2 best quotes were from companies who are on Quidco? Always a good idea when we are talking the crazy cashback figures from Insurance companies these days!
  • Erm, don't know how to explain this as a fairly long time user of MSE, but...I'm not a member of Quidco (insert embarrassed icon here!)

I do try to use RPoints wherever possible though ;)
