Looking for cooker hoods, and Baumatic seem to be really reasonable (can get a 750m/hr, 64db glass and steel hood for £170. There is also a Hoover 650m/hr, 62db for £160, and a hotpoint 550m/hr, 61db for £140.
They also have a make (matrix) I have never heard of-its less than £100.
The Baumatic comes with a 2 years labour and 5 year parts warranty. Are they any good? Not really got a lot of experience with them....

In a word...NO...
Used to sell Baumatic sppliances, never EVER again...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Thanks, so of the other 2-which would be best? I calculated (using JL website recommendations ) that we need extraction of 600m/hr, can you get away with less? (that was 12x the volume of the room-is that right?0

What size cooker hood are they? Can you give me model numbers? If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

They are 60cm wide. The hotpoint is the Hotpoint 60cm Decorative Glass Chimney Hood - HD6T, and the Hoover is HECH616X
I was thinking of just keeping the one we have, but it is about 10 years old, slightly stained/rust spots in places, so figure should replace, but absolute max we want to spend is 300, and was hoping for more like 2...0 -
Personally, I would be looking towards Elica for a cooker hood, something like this for a standard chimney style hood:
http://appliance-source.co.uk/aqua-60cm-chimney-hood/575
Which extracts up to 480m3/hr
Or if you are wanting glass:
http://appliance-source.co.uk/crystal-60cm-chimney-hood/2340
Which extracts 450m3/hr
Elica make the best cooker hoods (at their price points) around, would go for one every time!
To be honest, going for something that pulls out 750m3/hr is overkill. The recommended extraction rate for my kitchen is around 600m3/hr, yet I only have one that extracts up to 460m3/hr (http://elica.co.uk/view_products_child.php?id=127) and it has only ever been on power level 1 or 2, half the battle with a cooker hood is how you use it.
If you decide money is no object, then get one of these: http://elica.co.uk/view_products_child.php?id=129

Actually, if money really isnt an object try http://www.blanco.co.uk/products/gutmann.
Absolutely the best stuff around and with airflow rates of 3000m3/h make sure you tie any pets and kids down. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I have to agree. Although, there's "money is no object" and then there's "money is no object...HOW F'ING MUCH????"

Thanks, will look at them, I have never heard of them. are the hoover or hotpoint a no-no? Our current extractor needs to be used at full power, and is very noisy, so I has hoping for a powerful one that I could keep on low most of the time (new electric cooker has a vent at the back of the hob that blows out steam when the oven is on-so its going to need to be on when using the oven too-as I don't want too much condensation when we have the wooden floor laid...0 -
Although weirdly the hotpoint site puts the extraction at 460m/h, bit different to 550!0

For what it's worth, I've recently had an Elica extractor fitted and I am impressed by the performance.
As with all extractors, though, remember to switch it on at least 5 minutes before you start cooking and 10 minutes afterwards.0
