If she needs to re-sit exams, then perhaps it wasnt meant to be for her in the subjects she picked. If her failing is causing the family hardship (however it seems like she is still eligble for child benefits) then she could work and study in the evening if need be.
I dont think people think through the financial implications of having children and think the state will provide instead of them but we cant keep doing that as a country and people need to be responsible for any that they have.
I don't think people should generalise either. I was a Director of an Advertising Agency when I had my daughter. 2 years later, I suffered a spinal cord injury and was in hospital for a very long time. Subsequently, my husband and I split up. When I planned to have my daughter, I was married and in a high-paying job - sometimes things happen in life that you have no control over.
You think because my daughter got 'C's instead of 'B's which were required for her chosen University, she should give up? I personally taught my daughter to never give up, to strive and push forward to succeed. She is studying to be a Social Worker which would contribute greatly to our society too but judging by some of the responses in here, I wonder why?0 -
She did apply to UCAS clearing for other Universities but there we no places available in Social Work because of the tuition fee rise which will be implemented in 2012 most young adults are not having Gap Years etc. before anyone mentions that too.0

If you get full CTC and CB its £80 per week and that leaves you £50 per week for everything else on the less than short amount of time she has to be in school to resit her exams, its her failing thats caused your problems so I would be making her life more difficult by £30 pw and she might do better this time, thats the problem with generous welfare payments for children they dont have do anything to earn it.
I presume you have never had to turn to the welfare system then for any benefits?
I just checked my bank account and I get £58.70 for CTC and £20 for CB - apologies.0 -

Thanks, that was so helpful. I called them and they are sending me out the form immediately. My daughter is also my night-time carer and this has impeded her getting a part-time job too, they were more than helpful and it does look like her travelling costs at least will be met.

Would you have your daughter walk around in rags then if they couldn't find a part-time job despite applying for 100s?
What melodramatic things to say! "Walking around in rags" indeed!:rotfl:0 -

You suit your user name - you now have to do a degree to be a Social Worker! To do a degree you need A Levels!0 -
I have been helped out by a poster in here and the college have already said she is entitled to her fares, which is what my initial query was about. Martin does state in a sticky it is not about discussing benefit policies here but about entitlements, perhaps most of you need to read it again.
