OK, I'm excited, with too much time on my hands and not enough money to translate my ideas now that I am retired (60 at the end of this month with two grown up children and three little grandchildren).

I love the ideas on here, I am reasonably crafty and I just love the idea of the Christmas Eve hampers. My son has a Hungarian wife and some of ther family live with them and they celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve (as well as celebrating with us on Christmas day, LOL) so I have this idea of delivering something to enhance their celebration meal that evening.

Also, to keep the cost down, I would like to include some ideas which are practical gifts, e.g. some babysitting time although I already have the children two days a week. What else would be useful to parents of young children, on a practical level?

I am raring to go. I would love to visit one of the European Christmas markets in December but can't afford it. I love all things German and Swiss and Scandanavian with regard to Christmas so ideas for that would be welcome.

Also, I always host Christmas day for about 9 or 10 adults plus the little ones and I love to do table presents. I like the idea of gifts in a jar and intend to think about that. I have purchased some large Cath Kidston mugs in the sales and will treat them as jars, e.g. fill with packs of chewing gum for my husband (in a Cowboy mug), maybe chocs in a floral mug but would welcome further ideas.

    I don't ask much, do I? LOL
  • How about pots of gold in the cups white satin? some gold tissue paper, lots of gold sweets like choc coins, forereo rocher, basically anything in gold wrap and then a scratch card.

I'm sooooo excited for xmas now, watched 2 xmas films today!

i'm so excited. i really can't wait. i've even got an app for my iphone with a countdown, lol.

last xmas i was about 5 weeks preg and xmas day i had about an hour when i couldn't move as i thought i was gonna be sick. but no one knew i was preg, so i couldn't say anything i had to carry on cooking the roast, oh it was bad.

so this xmas our little man is here and i'm not cooking xmas day. were having our xmas meal xmas eve so that xmas day we can spend the day as a family of 6 just opening pressies and playing. instead of me spending ages away from family cooking the meal. i can't wait , it gonne be fab.

AS for pressies got alot of ideas in my head and done a few craft bits. but with a 4 week old baby time isn't as free as it was. we have found about 10 rolls of wrapping paper in loft and a huge amount of cards, so no need to buy any of that this yr.

i'm loving now the shops have started geting xmas bits in.

This is our first xmas as a family of 6, and i'm so looking forward to the hustle and bustle and excitement of the children and having some quality family time. hubby has from 16th dec off until 4th jan. it will be fab. just hope for snow to go with it.

Sure :) I got some Strata flexi tubs from Asda's for £3 each (mine are red but there's pink/yellow/blue/green etc) as I did last year. Lined it with a fleece blanket and used green and red shredded lametta to cover some of the bits and bobs in them. They can be used after for toy tubs and the like so really handy :)

You can also decorate the outside with names etc with cut outs/sticky letters etc and put tinsel through the handles - can do all sorts :)

If they're too big there's a smaller size for £2. ( can be seen here: http://groceries.asda.com/asda-estore/banneroffers/banneroffercontainer.jsp?listId=1215038036995 the larger ones aren't online for some reason)

Of course, forgot about using those! I actually have a red one already, so could use that. It's one of the smaller ones though so I might get a bigger one as I'm doing a hamper for the whole family (mum, Step-dad, little sis, big brother, me, hubby and baby).

Sarah basically its a box, hamper or gift bag containing some basics to make xmas eve cosy and festive. for us thats a festive bath soap or bath bomb, new pjs and socks for bed, xmas film, cookie baking kit to bake cookis for santa, santa stop here sign to hang up, popcorn for the movie, a festive choccie or sweet... things along those lines :)

  • Me!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so excited about Christmas, I cannot wait. I love the idea of a Christmas hamper and am thinking of doing one for us.

I haven't bought any presents yet but I saw some toiletries in M*rrisons today 3 for £10. I thought this was brilliant. I had thoughts of who I could give them to and top of my list was my ex MIL.

    Thanks x

  • Got everyone's except OH, as that is going to take some saving up for, his niece and nephew and my dad (although I know what I'm getting him). Also doing little jokey 'emergency kits' for mum and dad- just wrapped shoeboxes full of little bits and pieces. I'm getting very excited as it's going to be our first Christmas morning together and in the new house; also my first Christmas morning away from home.

Just trying to decide whether to do a box of treats and toys for the dog too now!

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time
