PPI Signature not mine

Three years ago I took out a personal loan with my bank over the phone. At the time I was offered PPI but declined it as I have always worked and find it a waste of money. The agreement came as requested via a courier which I duly signed and gave back to him and the funds were put into my account.
A few weeks ago I knew that the loan was about to finish so checked my agreement to find out the exact date/amount.When I checked the amount I saw that it was including PPI so phoned the banks` loan department to check. They then told me that it was including the PPI payments which I didnt ask/sign for so I phoned the PPI claims department and asked for a copy of my original `signed` agreement.I waited three weeks (they told me 7-10 days) but nothing came.I then phoned again and managed to get them sent via a different department.
When the photocopies of the originals eventually arrived I noticed straight away that the area on the form that needed to be signed to accept the optional PPI was signed by (to my disbelief) someone elses hand.I also noticed that the tick box that is shaded (dotted) grey on the original was a solid black with a white outlined tick.I have tried photocopying my original customer copy and none of them have had the box turn out this way.
I have contacted the bank and filed a mis-sold PPI claim also stating my concerns over the badly copied signature and tick box.I have backed up my phone claims with a letter and photocopies of the suspect signature and was wondering where to go next (Banking Ombudsman)?
Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there & Welcome

I would have mentioned the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) as well.
    http://www.ico.gov.uk/complaints.aspx

I would see what they come back with, they usually have 8 weeks to make a decision, but the main of the banks have been given extra time by the FSA to deal with the backlogs, so it currently stands at 12 weeks.

Hopefully they will resolve in your favour, but if not you should have the option of complaining to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).

Good luck, please keep us posted, cheers.

  • You are making an allegation of forgery by the bank.

Allow them to investigate it and if the outcome of the complaint is unsatisfactory then go to the Financial Ombudsman Service (there has not been a Banking Ombudsman since 2001)
  • Many thanks.
I will keep you informed with how I get on.
