    exhausted possibilities ?
How much time do you give a cat that is peeing in the house, how many things do you try ? and for how long and to what extent, my first line of action would be to remove the cat from the house.
    Nothing stinks like cat pee...

  • Maybe the stray tom is upsetting him and making him confirm this house is his..As above close off rooms you dont want him to go in, wash the areas with stain and odour removers that will remove the scent and smell of wee making him go back to these places. I also agree with trying Feliway cat comforting pheromone spray. Do you have a cat flap? has the tom tried to come in before? If so maybe a magnectic catflap the tom cant get through..
  • We had the same problem with our 2 year old cat - this was fixed for us with neuturing so not much help to you BUT it was brought on by a male cat spraying the outside of our house so the other cat thats appearing could be the problem? We spray our front door with cat repellent spray we got in pets at home which seems to have deterred the cat anyway.
Also just noticed you are pregnant - this also started when I was about 2 months pregnant, dont know if it could be that? 5 months now and no problem though so I doubt it...

I would take him to the vet though, it could be as simple as a uti, antibiotics and it could be fixed, much better than having the horrendous smell around anyway.

Also for getting rid of the wee smell, we've found a combination of washing the area with biological washing powder (even works on carpet) and then a sprinkling of pet odour powder stuff..(sorry I cant remember whats its called but its from morrisons and its only about 80p a tub!) worked the best. Oooh also the powder works best if you put it down as soon as you see the cat wee/spray. It kind of sucks up the moisture and turns hard, then you just hoover it up and ta da, smell gone!

Thankyou x Haven't noticed a wee smell because we have solid wood floors and I've been disinfecting the place as soon as we see him but will deffo look for pet odour powder. Will book him back into the vets tomorrow and have him checked over again x

He's 11 and does use the litter tray occasionally but now seems to prefer the wall/bin :o Nothing's changed in the house, not moved,no rooms closed off and no new pets in the house. We got two kittens 18 months ago but the weeing started only recently. All four cats are neutered.
We have air fresheners but I'm certain we only started using them AFTER Tigger started weeing. There is a stray cat that has started appearing near the house...a really scraggy ginger tom bless him..but would that make Tigger mark INSIDE the house when he couldn't even see him? It's weird because he'll be meowing at you asking for a stroke then just wee:eek:
Hi sorry about your wee cat. Im not an expert on cats but Iam a cat owner and love them all. I think the stray Tom could be the problem. Hes feeling threatened in his own territory and is well and truly marking it out!! As stated in previous postings there is something you can buy to alieviate this I forget what you call it but if you explain about the stray tom to the vet he will recommend it. It is like an air freshener but with something that calms your cat and helps to make it feel more secure. Please dont put a healthy cat to sleepx shrewdal

I wouldn't put him to sleep unless he was suffering and beyond veterinary help, don't worry hun.We got a "free to a good home" kitten 18 months ago and he became poorly with a twisted bowl..diverticultis or however you spell it.We were offered the choice of having him put to sleep or operated on at a cost of just under £800 (not insured only had him 2 days) and we forked out to try to save him. He's now asleep on my lap and THE most expensive free cat ever :p
We are total softies with our animals so euthanasia not an option right now x

I agree, it's more than likely to be the stay tom cat coming on the scene, talk to your vet, there are products available that deter cats from spraying, suggesting putting the poor thing down is just ridiculous.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world
  • Yup, it could well be the tom outside that's upsetting him - he may be worried it'll get in the house and be making sure it knows who it belongs to!

Another quick check at the vet won't do any harm.

Re the litter trays & getting another - how many do you have (you should really have at least 1 for every cat & some say 1 extra as well). Some cats happily share (esp if only a couple and brought up together) but many don't like to so this could be worth a try.
