we now have a fridge with a water dispenser which has helped as he will only drink water very cold..i also got him some flavoured water and some options low cal hot choc and he has had less than half his normal amount of beer this week and cut out choc/sweets and replaced with fruit and cut down on crisps.
i would rather us work together to cut it down slowly as from preivious experience he cuts out everything and it doesnt last more than a fortnight..its only been a week but he is trying and im proud of himHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0 -

I'd make veggie soups for him to have before his main course. It will really fill him up and you can have smaller portions of your usual meals. Don't fill up on bread along with the soup, though. My Dad often has a cup of homemade soup when he gets home from work -then he can take his time to make a proper meal instead of looking for something quick.0

Basic veg soup. Dice up a selection of veg...onion, celery, carrot, leek are my basic ones, sweat down in a knob of butter or little bit of oil in a big pan for five minutes, add stock made from either some boiled up chicken bones or a good quality stock cube. Add a couple of ounces of red lentils and simmer for half an hour, then either blitz in blender if you like smooth soups or add a few peas if you like chunky soup. Check seasoning, serve. That's my basic recipe anyway.
Lentil, bacon & tomato soup. Dice three rashers of bacon, sweat in pan till crispy round edges, add 6oz red lentils, tin of chopped tomatoes, 2-3 tins worth of water, stock cube. (Or ham stock if you've boiled a joint.) Simmer for 30 minutes, check seasoning, serve. Sometimes I add a clove of chopped garlic to the bacon.Val.0 -

Making veg soup is really, really easy. I usually follow a similar recipe to the one provided above, but last time I forgot to sweat down some of the veg in the butter first. I just bunged it all in the pan, covered with vegetable stock, and simmered for just under an hour, then blitzed it.
It was still really tasty. I think veggie soups is one of those dishes, where even if you mess it up a bit, or forget to do something/add something, it will still taste nice.
I also noticed you had mash with one of your meals. You could try using baby potatoes in future. Still yummy, but less fattening.
If he likes stirfry's, does he also eat peppers? They are so tasty, more so when cooked (IMO) as they sweeten up and you can throw them into a lot of dishesFebruary wins: Theatre tickets0 -

I think it will, yes. As far as I am aware the fat content is lower, and it has veggies in it, so you can't go far wrong there.
Baked potatoes, with a filling such as beans, or tuna and sweetcorn can be filling and healthy. Just don't add loads of butter or cheese to it.
Will try to think of some more for you. PS, he really should try soy sauce, it's lovely! Especially with egg fried rice
You could do veggie egg pita's too. Just dice up some peppers and onions and fry in a pan (a pan, not a frying pan), and then add a couple of beaten eggs (with salt & pepper already added) and cook through. Meanwhile, heat up the pita's (can be done in the toaster). Then slice open pita's, and stuff the egg and veg mix into it. You might want to serve this with some extra veggies on the side though. Otherwise it's not really filling enough for a man, I've found.February wins: Theatre tickets0
