Well I said I'd add the vows we'd written after our wedding so here they are...very few people knew we were writing our own (only our kids and one friend I let slip to by accident!). Everybody said afterwards that they loved the fact it was so personal, and was enhanced by one of our readings being written by the friend that read it. The whole ceremony felt gorgeous and very much 'us'. My vows were very much written with acknowledgement that my first marriage ended badly (he left me when our boys were just 5 and 7), it was 2nd time round for both of us, we're both older (47 and 53) and we've gone through a pretty tough few years. I was much more relaxed than I thought, didn't turn into the emotional wreck I thought. Only in a couple of places did I start to feel it but just looked at registrar rather than DH and got through it OK

    His to me:
    Lynda,
As I stand here beside youtoday, I promise to stand by your side in all our endeavours and behind you in yours.
I will strive to be the zephyr to your tempest, the order to your chaos and be your light in times of darkness.
I promise tolove you, to cherish and protect you, and today, a day of music and celebration I pledge to share my life with you.
Whether the days that come are happy or sad I will live them with you.

    Mine to him:
Kev, you have brought happiness back to my life. You have shown me how to love and to trust again. You give me friendship and raise my spirits when I feel low; you give me encouragement and confidence when I have self-doubt. You have made me laugh…usually with you, occasionally at you! You have accepted that you are one of three men who give my life meaning, and have understood when my role as a mother takes priority.
I want to share my life with you, to grow as a couple and with our families. I vow to bring happiness and laughter to our marriage, and a love and friendship that endures the good and bad parts of life. I look forward to a lifetime of closeness together, while respecting each other’s individuality. I don’t expect you to fulfill all of my dreams, but to share them and to allow me to share yours. I take you as my husband, my partner for life, and from this day on, this is my promise to you

Wow I thought writing the vows was enough of a challenge...to do the whole thing is amazing. You'll have to share that afterwards.

    Hi Ellay,

They are lovely, we are going to be writing our own vows too. I keep thinking about starting but got loads of time yet. We wanted to do our own because the Greek service is really short & goes on about having children & were not having any, so they are not very us.
Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

  • There is a really good book called Heartsongs by an author called Pinky Agnew, covering everything from religious to funny, traditional to contemporary themes. Its £3.50 second hand online or if you buy it new, you could sell it back online. I used it to write a reading at a friend's wedding & it's really inspirational .
