Important... Tomtom & Homer Simpson departed!

Hi, thanks for looking.

I have purchased a new TomTom sat nav to replace my 6 year old one.

Devastated that my official Homer Simpson voice is on my old machine and TomTom are asking if I want to pay again to put it on my new machine.

I've already bought it once, is there anyway to transfer it to my new Go Live 950? Perhaps a plus point is I have a ONE v2 with SD card so I'd imagine it would be located on there somewhere.

Thank you in advance for your replies.

  • Hi,
on your old TomTom there should be a folder marked something along the lines of "GB and Major roads of Europe" or maybe just "GB_and_Ireland" . On the same folder level of this you should find a folder marked "Voices" . If you look inside this folder which will contain pairs of files for the inbuilt Voices ( .chk and .vif ) and THREE files for custom ones (.bmp .chk and .vif ) These triples will probably be named data67.bmp data67.chk data67.vif

Easiest way to identify 'Homes' is just click on the .BMP file and a nice little icon of a picture of Homer should be displayed.
Once you have identified these files just copy the 3 files across to your new TomTom and place in the "Voices" Folder.

Should work if not try looking at the forums on pocketgpsworld.com for help.

    let me know either way

    All the best

got the feeling as a "premium" voice it needs to be authorised on the unit concerned , copying over will not work

  • Hi,You may well be correct.

It used to work as I downloaded mine from PGPSworld ages ago so worth a try.

Yes, seems to be the case, contacted TomTom and they said I would have to buy it again.

However, I got a TomTom transfer EXE from them, hoping that would work, it reads my old one, but not the new one!!!

I'll keep you posted if I get anywhere, cheers guys.

Just giving up on this. The transfer software doesn't work for me, and it's not worth my time for a few quid.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

Would have thought that if you had paid for it, you could install it on devices as and when you needed to, however, if you get the option to download the file for this one to the PC before installing it, do that.
