Jan 1st company website legislation?

Per today's FT, companies must now put their registered office address on their website (web page info must match company headed paper). FT points me to www.opsi.gov.uk to learn more - where you encounter a jumble of info and nothing about this as far as I can see.

Can anyone point to some organized info about this? In particular, are Sole Traders' websites included?

Can't answer your question about sole traders, but I think the info you need will be somewhere here. If you'd already found that, post back and on Monday at work I'll try to find a summary in plain English.

  • As I understood it, it only applies to Ltd co`s.

That page mentions quite a few regulations about insolvency and also mentions having your company name and registered number on stationary & website, what it does not appear to say is that you have to have company's registered office address on your website. The FT article mentioned the new regs were to comply with an EU directive so maybe this is the right page - just can't see clear info on it.

still does not make it clear if Sole Traders are affected in the same way as Registered Companies.

See this link to Companies House website:

    http://www.companieshouse.co.uk/promotional/busStationery.shtml

Info from local Business Link suggest it only applies to limited companies (plc and ltd) plud llp (limited liability partnerships)
