Hi, I bought an LCD TV with built in DVD player approx 16 months ago from Argos. Yesterday, the DVD player would no loonger work. I took it and my receipt back today and was told they could not replace the item as a year had passed. I said as far as I was aware they could only refund within a year and as the item cost £200 I expected it to last a reasonable amount of time and could I not request a replacement up to 6 years. The guy spoke to the manager who said no, once a year had passed nothing they could do. They could send to an engineer at my cost. Surely this is not right? Advice please!

They can send it to an engineer at your cost or you can arrange your own engineer, still at your cost. If the engineer agrees that it is due to an inherant fault then they should repair, replace or refund you, you would also get the engineers cost back.
There is no guarantee that the fault is inherent so the gamble is yours to take.0
