    Not too familiar with FP. I use Dreamweaver.

    Set up a directory for the files you want within the site structure and link to the relative position.

    not really sure what u mean.

    Say my site is https://www.another.co.uk
    i log on to my ftp,upload my page and change the name to index.html.Now say i have a link off my page to https://www.another.co.uk/nextpage how do i load https://www.another.co.uk/nextpage into the ftp,obviously if i upload it and change it to index.html then i'm replacing https://www.another.co.uk with https://www.another.co.uk/nextpage.Sos but only ever used FP!

    FTP is solely for transferring pages to your host, you cannot edit pages/links using it...

    I would, in your case, just upload the new version of nextpage and allow it to replace the existing one where you are hosting it, there is no need to update the linking as it already exists

    what i don't understand it seems i can have only 1 webpage if i don't use FP.
    say i have a webpage that has in the title bar "about us" and "recent" obviously in FP i can make 2 new pages and then link all 3 together and individually upload them via the publish to web facility.When using ftp i upload my file (page written in notepad) from the left hand box in my ftp server and then when it goes across to the right hand box i rename this "index.html" to make it a page.But i'm !!!!!!ed if i know how to get the other pages across

    Stop using Front Page and use different software like Dreamweaver, though it is technically cheating making websites with these types of software at least use a decent one.

  • I use dreamweaver for my websites, it has a built in ftp client, so you can make your pages, then upload them, all within the one application.

    If I have the odd thing that's not in the main site, a pic for a mate or something, i'll use smartftp(which is free) to quickly throw that into the folder I want.

    [edit] On re-reading your queries, I think you are loking for the syntax for linking one page to the other.
    <html>
    this is a simple web page
    <p>
    this is a <a href="page2.html">text link</a> to a second page <br>
    this is an <a href="page2.html"><img src="image.jpg" /></a> image link to a second page
    </html>

    I have software called WS_FTP LE just connect to the server, and copy the files accross.

    If you use FireFox this extension may help instead

    Dont forget that if you ftp to webspace that handles frontpage extensions you will break any dynamic content and you should be publishing the websace via frontpage itself so you dont lose any dynamic content such as DHTML and Forms, explained here

    If you want to upload with frontpage you dont need any other ftp programs just publish from frontpage but instead of http use ftp from frontpage as shown here

    Also any text will be displayed as a link when started with www or http.
  • sorted! thanks to all who helped me,much appreciated.
