Going away at Christmas - suggestions please

A few months ago, I posted to get some suggestions for a short haul weeks holiday. Many of you gave some really good ideas and we managed to get a reasonable week away.
I'm back again and now want some suggestions for a late December holiday, so that we are away for Christmas but back for the New Year.
Our budget (but don't tell him!) is £3k, give or take a couple of hundred.
I have already looked at Mauritius but want your thoughts on whether this is too far to go for a week.
Where else can we go to get some sun (not Europe)?

My work colleague recently went to Mauritius for just a week and loved it...probably helped by the fact they stayed in some luxury villas but she said it was perfect and she didn't feel that only a week had been too short (apart from the fact she had to come back to work again!!)0

Thanks for this suggestion, however, for the time being we are looking outside of Europe.£400+ in my £2 coin tablet fund0 -

I'd definitely consider Mauritius for a week, but try for a direct flight (there's minimal time difference). We've stayed at Shandrani twice - amazing all inclusive and only 15 mins from the airport (not sure whether it'd be under the £3k at christmas though)0

Thanks, I'll have a look at your suggestion. Yes that's what we are finding, that our budget might not stretch to Mauritius.
Matt2389 - thanks for your reply. Not sure South Africa is really for us.£400+ in my £2 coin tablet fund0 -
