Hi, Went to see a 54 plate Yaris 1.4 Diesel today with 80k on the clock. Could anyone tell me if it's normal to be a bit smoky from the exhaust, oil cap was check and looked normal.
Thanks
Thanks

I have a 1.4 Diesel Yaris and no, it shouldn't smoke at all. Even at a cold start. I've never had any smoke on hard acceleration either.
It might just need a new air filter but I wouldn't rely on that being the reason.0 -
Probably just needs some fuel line cleaner put in it. Diesels in general are renowned for smoking, although too much smoke is an MOT failure. Diesels usually kick out black smoke if any, which is easy to sort out.0

Toyota Diesels do not belch out smoke unless they've been to the moon and back or have been neglected, you might get a bit of white condensation type smoke from a cold start on a cold day but that will quickly vanish once the engine has warmed a bit.
Even under full power the only Toyota Diesel i've ever known put out a small trace of black smoke is the 4.2 Landcruiser.
Walk away and find another.0 -
Thanks, everything was in tip top condition except for this issue, unfortunately the engine had been steam cleaned which made it impossible to see any history of leaks.
Even though trader said it would be sorted I decided to leave it.

I'd be suspicious of any steam cleaning. It looks nice, but as you say, it also serves to mask hidden gremlins like oil leaks! Nothing wrong with a bit of honest dirt!infernalaffairs wrote: »Thanks, everything was in tip top condition except for this issue, unfortunately the engine had been steam cleaned which made it impossible to see any history of leaks.
