asda credit card (santander)

I have nearly paid off my small balance owing thank goodness., NEVER AGAIN. However there is a dispute on my last two payments paid both in a lloyds bank branch, as usual, payments in full, one was £23.24 and one was a similar amount, I have the bills with the bank stamp on confirming amount paid, paid in cash. Then I get a letter from santander 'you have defaulted we have not received payment' I went back to the bank to ask them to confirm to santander that I paid it full in cash., showing my bill to prove it. The lady said it was tiresome but that she would do it. Then santander said that it was 24p short and it wasnt. She had to sort it again, and was becoming pretty annoyed. I was told she'd sent the relevant info to santander. Then she went off sick. I found out when the problem arose again and wanted to speak to her for the sake of continuity. She is sick still. In the meantime...

The only numbers santander have given is for debt counselling / debt management. Which are not of any use for me. There is not a number to query this., prove my innocence. I want to send photocopies of my bills to someone high up there, to prove it. But can't seem to get any details. Santander bank will not process a santander card payment at all, as i don't have a current account with them and they say that they 'cannot' do a transaction with a giro slip like other banks do, and it has got to be done through a current account., held with them. they also cannot help with the dispute as I am not a customer of santander, "having a santander card (asda) doesnt mean you are a customer of santander".

If I was cynical I would think this is all done to a) *force you into direct debit b) refuse help to ensure late fees and defaults fees are applied to make money.

I have a halifax card,I can pay in halifax bank. I have barclaycard I can pay in barclays. However I dont have CURRENT ACCOUNT in either of these banks either....but they are happy to process them, so why do they and not santander?

Anybody know who I send the copies of proof I paid to, please and has anybody had a similar encounter? I am extremely careful with the little money I have, and always pay on time.,yet I believe their error could result in making me get a bad credit reference through no fault of my own! when it has been settled how could I check that this hasn't happened? and what to do if it has. Thanks!

*why I won't do direct debit, because Npower were paid like this, made an error on a bill, and then tookout more than I had in account resulting in bank charges, the bank said NPower could take whatever some they deemed appropriate..so for this reason I refuse to do direct debit.

A web search for <asda credit card complaints> found this page as the first hit. It seems to answer your question.

This being Santander I don't expect a quick resolution but it seems like a good place to start.

  • Since Halifax now use the LTSB counter system you should be able to pay a BGC to Santander/Asda cards over the counter.
Can I ask why you do not use Internet banking to pay this bill?

Thanks for replies, will try those.

re internet banking, no,its not for me, and as I have so little money to play with it would mean going to put it in the account which I would need to use for that , very regular so that it doesn't become empty and if I am having to do a journey to do that then its just as easy to just pay it on bank giro credit,to be fair its only santander that I have the problem with., on the whole it (bank giro slip) suits me and if it is nearing the deadline for example then I'd go to the bank who issued the card to pay the bill, where it would clear on that day as compared to a different bank which I'm often told, need 4 days to clear a cash payment - which usually is fine except santander won't do it....Also i just don't trust internet banking the security etc. (I know some people do use it and like it though.)

Re 'pay it in the halifax,' I actually did try once to do this in order to save time of having to go to another bank nextdoor (queue), and they said they could only process their own credit card statement...so I ended up paying others in lloyds. That was last year though - maybe they now let customers do it.?
  • Yes they do it as long as you have an account with them.

I don't understand, what are you actually taking them to court for? - given they've let you off the £25 (although that may have been an interest charge, given your payment may (a) not have cleared by the balance transfer end date(b) you didn't pay off the full value by the due date). So what loss have you actually suffered that you are claiming for? - as this may be a 'goodwill' payment but you wouldn't be able to claim associated costs if the £25 was valid.
