Help make my broadband faster

My broadband connection appears to be running a lot slower than usual so I'm wondering if there are any regular procedures I should be going through to keep the laptop running smoothly? Should I regularly be deleting ccokies etc to help?

Thanks

Go here and try tweak test - it will test your connection and advise you acdcordingly

You could also run a range of anti spyware products and a cleaner e.g

    Spybot, windows defender and CCleaner
  • just tried a test and it gave download speed of 1421 KB/s, upload speed of 107 KB/S and latency of 387ms. Is this bad?

Do you use an insecure wireless network? Is someone pinching your bandwidth? Have you done a speed test?

  • Hi espresso. I do indeed use a wireless network. I'm staying long term in a hotel who give their guests wireless access through superclick.

The security issue is something I've been concerned with. I wonder if it's unwise to do internet banking using the hotel's wireless?
  • just checked the icon and it says the hotel's wireless network is unsecured! It also shows about 10 other wireless networks that I seem to be connected to.

    unwise.

only if you havent asked at the front desk the exact details about their wireless network so you can correctly identify it.

Front desk seem to think that there isn't a problem although the girl idn't inspire me with confidence!

When I click on the connection icon it shows their wireless connection to be unsecured whereas all the others showing are secured.
