Oh goodness... wish I hadn't seen that!! Poor thing, he's probably just coming out of the ASBO stage, ready to be a grown up boy. I note that he's still entire though.... first job methinks!

My 3 year old dog Jack is still entire, and I don't plan on getting him "done".

He's not bothered about females and just wants to be by my side, he's never aggressive, in fact he's quite timid and needs all the testosterone he can get:rotfl:

we took our two into the vets yesterday, the vet started talking to us about how they were together (two jacks) as she has a jack russel cross and shes been contemplating getting another for company/playtime.

ours are fantastic together (apparently brother and sister although we arent quite sure about that) - they play all the time and keep each other company - we had them 'done' at the same time and the behaviour side of both of them changed at the same time.

different characters, but they definitely are backing each other whenever they need to.

I'd recommend a second one, especially if you tend to be out at work during the day...

we have just got our third dog on friday, a gorgeous 8 week old douge de bordeaux
we orginally had 2 english bullmastiff 11 & 4 The 11 years old one is a bit cranky and getting and the younger one died suddenly last year
My other half decided that he wanted to get a younger dog as company for the older one, plus he wanted to do more longer walks which the older dog wouldnt do due to her age

So a month ago he bought a one year old english bullmastiff who is lovely
however i had always wanted a douge de bordeux after watchin turner and hooch years ago, but never seem to see them for sale where i live, most see to be up north but i was looking regurlary for one we didnt mine if it was older or a puppy but on friday we saw an advert for the puppies for sale and they were local and that was that we went straight up to see them and bought one there and then

....and for the past two night i have had no sleep, its like having a baby again, but she is worth and settling nicely now and the other two dogs a male and female absoulutly adore her
The two bullmastiffs live outside and took to each other straight away with no probs despite the older one having serious problems with other dogs when being walked
Also we have noticed that our older bullmastiff who was quite cranky and slept all the time has become much more lively since we have had the 1 year old bullmastiff and plays a lot in the garden more than she did before its almost like its knocked a few years off her and she is acting like a big puppy again despite her advancing years

When we got our second rescue this time our vet said he didnt think it was a good idea having two male terriers - though both are neutered - one border, one Parson Russell but even he says now (when we take one to the vet the other comes along for the outing) how lovely it is to see them together "they are really good mates arent they". So it really is just getting the balance right - it helps when you get a second mature dog as their personality is formed so you know how they will be together.

Cheshire? Oh lots of rescues in that area. You may want to start by looking here:

Its surprising that there are a LOT more dogs offered in the south of the country than the north. Few more rescues in your area though:

    I've been Money Tipped!
I would normally opt to have more than one dog, have only once only had one dog and felt keen to get another quickly, HOWEVER, I think both the dogs I have now would be very satisfied only dogs, and in fact I certainly think one of them would be happier as an only dog.
  • thanks for the replies, i will go through the rescue centres now

would i be better with another girl or does it not make much difference if they are both done?
  • I always found with friends that two girls can sometimes be a problem. Sometimes they are great together. When you go to a rescue centre you can see how they get on first, but be very selective as the worse thing you can do is get one and send it back a week later.

As they say - a dog is for life and not just for Christmas.

I had five boys and all were large or giant breed. Very rarely had a problem.
