Paying into a Santander account

Hello.
My landlord has asked that we pay our rent into a Santander savings account. However, I'm concerned about the details he's given us, and want to ensure that the money will definitely reach him.
The account number and sort code appear to be generic to all Santander savings accounts, and he's also given me a 12-digit reference beginning with E. I bank with Natwest, who provide a reference box when I set up payments online. Do I write the 12-digit reference here? Will it definitely reach my landlord?

Yes it should do if you quote the 12 digit reference number, but this is Santander. :eek:

If you are worried, set up the payment, send a token £1 and ask the landlord to confirm receipt before sending the balance.
