  • Lovespoon - our best man was asked to do this, but he couldn't get his tongue aroung "promulgation"!

Instead, we had (and they were beautifully read)
    I Promise
    Dorothy R. Colgan

I promise to give you the best of myself
and to ask of you no more than you can give.

I promise to respect you as your own person
and to realise that your interests, desires and needs
are no less important than my own.

I promise to share with you my time and my attention
and to bring joy, strength and imagination to our relationship.

I promise to keep myself open to you,
to let you see through the window of my world into my innermost fears
    and feelings, secrets and dreams.

I promise to grow along with you,
to be willing to face changes in order to keep our relationship alive and exciting.

I promise to love you in good times and in bad,
with all I have to give and all I feel inside in the only way I know how.
    Completely and forever.

Marriage Fulfills the Dreams and Love Two People Share

    By Glenda Wilm

Everyone searches for one special person
They can share their lives with.
The other half who makes them whole,
Like two notes blending together to make a beautiful song,
    Or the colours that complement
Each other to form a rainbow.
It is everyone’s wish to have a lifetime of sunny days,
    A rainbow after every storm;
A lifetime of loving and living and growing and giving,
Of sharing and caring; a lifetime of days together,
Learning from the bad times and cherishing the good times.
Marriage is everything your heart desires
And the strength, courage and determination to work for it.
In marriage you take care of each other’s heart
And hold on to what you share.
You hold it gently so it doesn’t smother
And firmly so it doesn’t slip away.
Hold it so that it can grow
    And you can grow together
And live and laugh and love together always.

We had two readings - 'Us Two' and the second was particularly special; hubbie's gran died a few months earlier and we were given a photo of his grandad in a frame from her flat. I took the frame apart to put the picture in an album and found a lovely little poen typed on HM Forces paper addressed to his gran from his grandad, dated 1941...it was so sweet we had to have it as a reading - made everyone cry, especially his sister who did the reading!

Wow, that's even made me a bit sniffly. How romantic.
I always look behind old photographs hoping to find something amazing like that.

This is one of ours so far ...

    THE ONE
When the one whose hand you're holding
Is the one one who holds your heart
When the one whose eyes you gaze into
Gives your hopes and dreams their start,
When the one you think of first and last
Is the one who holds you tight,
And the things you plan together
Make the whole world seem just right,
When the one whom you believe in
puts their faith and trust in you,
You've found the one and only love
You'll share your whole life through.
