does the car have side skirts fitted (plastic trim running the lengh of the sill under the passenger and rear door??) there could be water trapped inbetween inner and outer skins of the trim usually side skirts will have a peice of plastic you can take off at jack up points try removing them if fitted and rock the car back and forth and watch for any water dripping out. either thyat all i can think of is that your car is a diesel and fitted with a DPF usually located in the exhuast system near the cat converter and its starting to fill with unspent fuel (some modern mazda's are prone to them over filling and sending unspent fuel back into the engines oil causing the oil levels to rise and cause damage)0

Atrixblue - you are a star!!!!
Thank you very, very much. Finally managed to find the plastic strip that you described, eased it off a little and of course water gushed out! So once we get the carpet dried out out our problem is solved.
Anyway thanks again, we really appreciate your help. Regards, kje.
(Mind we've still no idea how the water got in there in the first place).0
