1984 Spider - fun?

I have never driven a sports car :o. Never really hankered after one, but feel it is something I should do once in my life :D.

I go to Spain a lot and my local car hire co has a 1984 Spider available for €150 a week. Very tempted (waiting to hear what colour ;)).

What are they like to drive? Am a little concerned about heavy steering (a long, long time since I drove on of those!) + fast car + driving on the right not being a good combo.

Just realised I forgot to ask if it's LHD or RHD. May well be RHD as it's a British co, so that would be another factor.

They also have an XJS but boss has one of those so not quite the same :rotfl:

Thanks.

FAST ??? Are you sure, I bet a 1400cc fiesta is faster these days.

It may feel fast because its low slung but avoid 1400cc fiesta's or the dream maybe spoilt.

I used to have an MG BGT, At the lights the boy racers in 1400cc fiesta's would look across i would rev the
engine so they could hear it rumble but let them screech away from the lights as i pootled away gently.

Secretly i knew they would win anyway.

Heavy steering not really an issue, Its lower geared to give you more leverage so more turns from lock to lock though.

The wonder of will it start today adds to the fun.

Are you referring to an Alfa Romeo Spider? If so, I believe they all came out of the factory in LHD, although from memory a few companies did convert them to RHD. Performance is relative to what you're used to, but in general the Spiders weren't particularly fast - more of a sporty cruising car than a performance sports car. It'll be a fun car with the roof down, but don't go racing anyone from the lights - most modern cars will embarrass you if you try that.

They were fast for the time, but none had a 0-60 of less than 10s.
